In October 2020, the Government of Canada, through its Canadian Mortgage Housing Corporation (CMHC), launched the Rapid Housing Initiative (RHI) to address the urgent housing needs of vulnerable Canadians. The initial round of the RHI’s funding—all of which went toward modular buildings—was CN $1 billion, and in the immediate wake of COVID-19, it went quickly. And it was put to immediate use.

Multi-award winning Intermind Design Inc., which started in 2004, is unique in many ways. It is run by the designer, by a woman, and by an immigrant. No, not run by three people, but one person: Mila Djuras. Mila began her life as an academic, teaching both science and later, design, at the university level. She came to Canada after war broke out in the former Yugoslavia and made the transition into business here in the early 2000s. Intermind Design Inc. sets itself apart from other design-build companies in that it does not outsource the design component. All aspects of the project from the permitting process, design management, budget, and quality control are solely coordinated by Mila.
or Steve Perizzolo, electrical work is not just a career; it’s a family tradition. While Steve’s company, NRG Electric, has been serving lower mainland B.C. and Vancouver for nearly 25 years, his family’s roots in the business go back a bit further. “My father had his own company (P&F Electric Ltd.)
